The Danish government has provided DKK 10 million (USD 1.4 million) to the Myanmar Humanitarian Fund managed by United Nations OCHA Myanmar. The new Danish contribution will assist people affected by the recently wake of fighting and conflict in the states of Kachin, Shan and Rakhine.

The UN estimates that 525,000 people in Myanmar currently is in need of humanitarian assistance.

The contribution occurs in connection with the Danish government sending 118 million DKK to a number of the world’s forgotten crises. The money goes to countries like the Central African Republic, Yemen and Burundi, where conflicts have sent millions to flee, but rarely make headlines in the Danish and international news media.

“More than 65 million people worldwide have been displaced from their homes and need our help. Many of the crises, we seldom hear about. But this does not make humanitarian needs less urgent,” says Ulla Tørnæs, the Danish Minister for Development Cooperation.
