Siemens has received its first order from China for four gas turbines of type SGT-800 manufactured in the Swedish cities Finspång and Trollhättan. The turbines will be installed in in pairs in two power plants for the production of electricity and heat in the cities Baode and Xiyang in Shanxi Province.
The two plants will together have a total capacity of 308 megawatts (MW). Customer Shanxi Natural Gas Company Limited, which is owned by Shanxi Provincial Guoxin Energy Development Group Co., Ltd. Commissioning is scheduled for July 2017.
Siemens scope of supply includes four gas turbines of type SGT-800 with an output of 54 MW, generators, auxiliary systems as well as installation and commissioning.
“This is an important breakthrough for the SGT-800 in the Chinese market where small-scale energy production with a focus on natural gas right now is growing strongly,” says Hans Holmström, CEO of Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB.
Siemens has sold a total of 297 copies of the SGT-800 and the total fleet has achieved almost four million operating hours. The new power output of 54MW is the result of small modifications to some of the turbine section components with more efficient cooling and improved surface coatings. With its high reliability and high efficiency the total life cycle cost is low and the environmental impact minimal.
In accordance with China’s twelfth five-year plan big focus is currently placed on developing a decentralized energy market, with natural gas as the primary fuel. In this case, both power plants will use a form of natural gas with high hydrogen content. The choice fell on the SGT-800 thanks to its high fuel flexibility, low emissions levels with the new improved efficiency in combined cycle operation.
