On 23 July the Swedish Embassy in Beijing hosted the First Swedish-Chinese Linguistic Forum. Twenty-eight guests, including specialists and linguists from Beijing International Studies University, People’s Education Press and Beijing Foreign Studies University, as well as 11 teachers of Chinese from Swedish high schools joined the discussion, exchanging ideas on their common passion – language education.
Panellists included veteran Chinese teacher Håkan Friberg, author and editor of one of the first sets of Chinese course material in Swedish, Zhang Jun, editor of Chinese learning materials from People’s Education Press, and Xu Xin who teaches Swedish at Beijing Foreign Studies University – one of only two universities in China that offer a Swedish program. The discussion centred on learning materials and teaching methods in both countries, with the panellists sharing thoughts and experience.
“Communication and sharing of ideas were the words on everyone’s mind today, and we hope that exchanges like these can contribute to more possibilities in teaching Chinese in Sweden, and vice versa”, said forum moderator Gao Yu.
The event was organized by online Chinese learning website Nageshenme and the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing.
