Business Sweden, the Swedish Energy Agency and Embassy of Sweden in Jakarta are bringing Swedish businesses and expertise in this delegation, also accompanied by Mr Erik Brandsma, Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency. The delegation is focused on unlocking business potentials in the energy sector in Indonesia and offers a unique opportunity to showcase Swedish solutions and know-how for Indonesian decision makers.

Indonesia is at the heart of the world’s most dynamic economic region and by far the largest economy in Southeast Asia. With a population of 255 million and massive investments in infrastructure, a rapidly growing consumer market, and a progressive economic reform agenda, Indonesia is set to strengthen its position in the region and as a force in the world economy.

The demand for sustainable and innovative energy solutions in Indonesia is growing at an increasing rate, writes Business Sweden. By 2019, Indonesia has set a target to increase total electricity capacity with 35GW. By 2025, the government is targeting 23% of the total energy mix to be made up by renewable resources. Swedish companies can offer a lot to the Indonesian energy sector – both energy efficiency solutions and solutions for improving the energy mix to focus on more renewable energy sources.

On 15 December 2016 the Indonesian Embassy in Stockholm, Swedish Energy Agency and the Ministry of Environment and Energy arranged a seminar in Stockholm, Sweden on Indonesia with Minister Ibrahim Baylan. There, the upcoming energy delegation and opportunities in the Indonesian market for companies working on renewable energy and energy efficiency related products and services were introduced.

The meeting gave an overview on the Indonesian market and Team Sweden presented the “Business Accelerator Program” and the results of an Indonesian market analysis on sustainable heating and cooling, smart grids and energy efficiency. A brief introduction to a new Waste to Energy program was also given.

Team Sweden has been working in Indonesia since 2013 supporting Swedish technology and know-how in the energy sector. This work has provided a wide network of key decision makers that will be leveraged during the business delegation.

Indonesia is expected to become the 7th largest economy in the world by 2030, with an additional 90 million Indonesians joining the consuming class by the same time, accelerating energy demand.
