Team Norway visits Norwegian businesses in Thailand

On Wednesday June 14, the Thai-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce visits Premium members Aibel and Jotun together with the Royal Norwegian Embassy.

Both companies are cornerstones in the strong and growing economic relationship between Norway and Thailand. Aibel Thailand is a supplier of modules and platforms to customers worldwide and Jotun is a worldwide quality supplier of paint and coating in decorative paints, marine coatings, protective coatings and powder coatings. The chamber would like to thank you for two very interesting visits. We also learned that both companies take security and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) very seriously.

They both have extensive training programs for their personnel and strict safety regimes, resulting in very few and very minor injuries at their facilities.

Aibel
Aibel is a leading Norwegian company in the oil and gas industry. Aibel Thailand, located in Laem Chabang just outside of Bangkok, has specialized in modules for production vessels (FPSO), platforms and onshore plants.

Aibel’s yard is the only yard in Thailand that also supplies topsides to the Norwegian continental shelf. The ongoing project is a module for the Johan Sverdrup Drilling Platform. Johan Sverdrup is one of the five largest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf, and one of the most important industrial projects in Norway for the next 50 years. The module we went to see is almost finished and will sail to Norway on June 27 this year.

Jotun
After visiting Aibel, Team Norway went to visit the paint and coating company Jotun, also located just outside of Bangkok, in Samut Prakan. Jotun, from the Norwegian city of Sandefjord, has been in Thailand for almost 50 years. Jotun Thailand is today the oldest Jotun factory outside of Norway. Their factory in Thailand employs more than 300 people. Globally, Jotun has close to 10 000 employees and in present in over 100 countries worldwide. Their investment in Thailand and in the region continues to increase, and Jotun plans to open new factories in the region this year; in Myanmar and in the Philippines.
