Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur: Swedish chef’s afternoon tea

At Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur guests from the Nordic countries can not only take the pleasure in glass panorama views overlooking the Malaysian capital’s building landmark Petronas Towers and the entire KL City Centre, but also savour food spreads, including the afternoon tea buffet, created by a Swedish chef!

Executive Chef Tommy Franssila and his sizable chefs team, including pastry chefs, ensures that there are always something exciting happening in terms of food promotions and themes within the towering five-star hotel.

The ongoing Friday – Saturday’s ‘High On Sugar’ is such an attraction, which also playfully hints at the elevated level where this is served: level 38’s Thirty8.

On the second highest floor of the hotel this splendid venue consists of a restaurant, a wine bar and a lounge, with 360-degrees views through the panorama windows stretching over two floors. On a clear day the setting is quite spectacular!

After some busy hours shopping or touring the city, or after a day with plenty of meetings, you will feel that you deserve this mid-day treat, in the form of the afternoon tea promotion.

Thirty8 invites guests to have a sinful moment of indulgence while enjoying the spectacular views of the Kuala Lumpur skyline.

Marvel upon a selection of gastronomic desserts and freshly baked pastries, where the buffet spread is just irresistible. Based on your personal taste for flavours and colours you will find things you may never have tried before. And this will be a reason good enough not to resist the temptation.

High On Sugar offers some additional excitement as well, when the pastry chef prepares a nitrogen frozen espuma (comes in three flavours of raspberry, chocolate and mango) – a little smoky, molecular gastronomy gimmick served in a glass. Toppings are Chocolate pearl, Chocolate shavings, or Mango or Strawberry compote

Then there’s the Metre-Long Sandwich, which is a thick and spicy tuna mayo and roasted chicken curry mayo sandwich. The chef will cut a slice in the size you prefer.

And of course, no afternoon tea will be complete without the scones – plain or raisin with jam and double cream.

The decadent buffet otherwise offers a luscious variety of cakes, small sweet bites such as Victoria sponge cake with strawberry filling, Mille feuille with mascarpone cream and strawberry, Paris brest with hazelnut mousse, Orange tea cake, assorted macarons, pralines, cookies…

It is not overwhelming, but a fine selection with just about what you can cope to taste during a relaxing, prolonged afternoon tea and that can easily glide over into conversations with a glass of wine or a cocktail in hand as the sun sets over Kuala Lumpur city centre.

Tee choices are: Jasmine, Earl Grey, Rose Bud, Chamomile, Blackcurrant or Green tea–camellia.

For coffee lovers there is also an exciting selection of flours – hot or cold – to choose from: Mocha, Vanilla, Tiramisu, Butterscotch and Crème Brulee!
