Students receive recognition for achievement in sports

June 10th 2016, Bangkok – Tammarine Tanasugarn, Thailand’s highest ranking female Tennis player was the guest speaker at Bangkok Prep Sports Awards ceremony held on Tuesday, 7th June 2016. Tammarine reflected on her time as an athlete and the perseverance it takes to overcome challenges. “Defeat is very normal, you will win and sometimes you will lose, your resilience will be tested all the time”, said Tammarine.

Bangkok Prep Sports Awards ceremony is held annually to recognise outstanding student athletes who have represented the school in various inter school sports leagues and competitions such as FOBISIA (The Federation of British International Schools in Asia) and TISAC (Thailand International Schools Activity Conference).

Throughout the school year, students represent Bangkok Prep in international competitions as well such as U.S Kids Golf Thailand Championship; IMG Junior World Championship; Summer Sailing Regatta; Future Cup Junior Sailing competition; ITF Jr Tennis Championship Ipoh; Thailand National Junior Tennis Championship; Bangkok 9s Rugby League competition, Thailand National Age Group Swimming Championships.

The American born key note speaker, Tammarine Tanasugarn, is a professional Thai Tennis player and has been a doubles partner with Maria Sharapova, with whom she won two titles in 2003. Tammarine’s highest world doubles ranking was no. 15, which she achieved in 2004. In her career, Tanasugarn has defeated former and current no. 1 players, Amélie Mauresmo, Jennifer Capriati, Jelena Janković, and Dinara Safina. She has also beaten Mary Pierce in the Australian Open and French Open.

Awards that were given to Primary and Secondary students included various sports such as, swimming, basketball, football, athletics, and badminton.
